Showcasing incredible talent and celebrating art!
I’ve lived my whole life in Sarajevo, in Yugoslavia, joyfully until the year 1992, when war broke out in the city I’ve called home my entire life. Sarajevo burned, besieged for nearly 1500 days.
This adversity forced me to overcome a horrible situation and the pain it brought. I searched within myself, looking for ways to express the beauty I saw in life, despite the images of a war-torn Sarajevo. I began to paint, not knowing if I was any good or not, but that didn’t matter to me.
My art represents the confluence of life and death, an everlasting battle between good and evil. My paintings have always emphasized key elements regarding the beauty of nature apart from human error, like the war in Yugoslavia.
The faces I paint capture every nuance of the ebb and flow of life and the immense emotion it brings. After the war, Yugoslavia emerged broken, Bosnia now an independent country, and out of me, emerged art.
